Language course German in Cologne

BWS Germanlingua

Our partner school in Cologne, BWS Germanlingua, is located on the second floor of a historic building in the heart of the city centre, just 15 minutes walk from “Kölner Dom” (Cathedral of Cologne) and not far away from “Deutzer Brücke” (the main bridge in the city). The school consists of 5 fully equipped classrooms, a student kitchen, computer room and free WIFI.

Intensive

The intensive German course in Cologne consists of 20 or 25 lessons per week from Monday to Friday. Lessons are focused on developing the essential language skills (grammar, vocabulary, conversation and listening) through a very communicative teaching method. All levels are available (from A1 to C2).

Minimum age is 16 years.

The Minigroup German course in Cologne is especially designed for those looking for a more personalized approach in their lessons, which is made possible due to the reduced number of students in the group (6 students max.) This course consists of 20 lessons per week and takes place between October and June (not available in July, August and September).

The Combined German course in Cologne consists of 20 group lessons and 5 or 10 private tuitions per week from Monday to Friday. Lessons are focused on developing the essential language skills (grammar, vocabulary, conversation and listening) through a very communicative teaching method.  All levels are available (from A1 to C2).
During the private lessons, students will be able to develop subjects of their own interest in the German language or be prepared for an official exam.
Lessons are normally taught in the morning, but during peak season, there are also lessons in the afternoon.

Minimum age is 16 years.

This course combines the general intensive course of 20 lessons per week with 3 or either 6 lessons of pronunciation per week in groups of maximum 2 participants. These extra lessons focus on the correct pronunciation of the German language and help you improve your speaking abilities.

Commercial German

The commercial German course in Cologne is especially designed for those who use this language at work. The aim of the course is to provide the participants with the essential language skills (spoken and written) for communication in German companies.

This course consists of 23 or 26 lessons per week (20 lessons of General German + 3 or 6 lessons per week respectively devoted to commercial German). Commercial lessons are taught in the afternoon and the group consists of 2 students per class.

Minimum age is 16 years.

If you want to complete an official exam at the end of your course, then you can book the Exam Preparation course.

The course consits of 23 or 26 lessons per week (20 lessons of General German + 3 or 6 lessons respectively devoted to exam preparation)
During the specific lessons, you will prepared for one of the following exams: B1, Zertifikat B2, Zertifikat C1, ZOP, DSH, TestDaF or TELC. Please, contact us for further details. The exam preparation will be developed in a group of 2 people max.

One-to-One

For those who are looking for completely personalized tuition, we recommend booking the private German classes in Cologne. You can book 20 German lessons over a period of 1 or 2 weeks. During these classes, aspects of the language which are of a special interest to the student, such as specific conversation topics or preparing for an official exam, will be covered.

Shared apartment

These apartments are simple, yet very comfortable. They are located 15 minutes from the school via subway and are equipped with the following facilities:

  • Single rooms
  • Fully equipped kitchen and shared bathroom
  • Communal television


On average, the apartments consist of 3 rooms (single and double rooms) and the apartment will be shared with approximately 5 or 6 roommates.  

There is no access to internet (WIFI) or telephone. In case you need internet, you can use the WIFI at the language school. This apartment is not equipped with a washing machine (there is a launderette near the apartment where you can wash your clothes). Bed linen is available in the apartment however, there are no towels. The price includes a weekly clean-up of the communal areas.

Students must be a minimum of 20 years of age to stay in an apartment.

Single-use-Apartment

For those looking for total independence, the school offers private studios located 15 minutes from the school by subway.

These small, private apartments are equipped with a fully furnished American kitchen, a private bathroom and a television. Bed linen is available in the apartment however, there are no towels. There is no washing machine but there is a laundry area in the building in which you can find coin-operated washing machines.

There are apartments for two persons as well. We kindly request you to contact us about the prices of these apartments.

Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age to stay in a studio apartment.

Host family

The best way to get to know the German language, the German way of living and German habits is by living with a German family. A family can consist of a couple (with or without children) or a single person (young or old). You will share the bathroom and the kitchen with the other members of the family and you will be provided with towels and bed-linen.

With regard to lodging with host-families, it is only possible to book accommodation with breakfast or half-board (breakfast and dinner). If you would like to book bed and breakfast lodging, you may use the kitchen to prepare your meals. 
 
Please be aware of the fact that Cologne is a big city and that our host-families do not live in the city center. The distance from the families to the schools is approximately 20-40 minutes by public transport (metro or bus). All the families live near a bus stop so you can easily get to the school which is located in the historical center of Cologne.
