Learn Spanish in San José at our partner language school, Academia Tica. Academia Tica is situated 10 kilometres away from the centre of San José, in the picturesque small town of San Rafael de Coronado. Academia Tica is located on the site of a former coffee plantation, in a charming, quiet neighbourhood.
The school's teachers are native speakers and are all very friendly with a lot of experience in teaching Spanish foreign students. The school atmosphere is professional but relaxed, ensuring that students work hard but at the same time enjoy the work that they are doing. On arrival students undertake an oral or written language exam to determine within which class they will be placed to enhance their language development.
In addition to your Spanish course, you can also take part in a varied and interesting programme of activities organised by Academia Tica such as:
The minigroup course includes 20 lessons of 45 minutes per week, in groups of 6 or less students.
General language course: reading, speaking, pronunciation, listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary expansion, Central American culture. If there is only one participant for a given level, that participant will receive 15 units of private instruction per week during their minigroup course instead of 20 units of group.
Minimum age is 16 years.
The combined minigroup course includes 20 lessons of 45 minutes each, per week, in groups of 6 or less students.
General language course: reading, speaking, pronunciation, listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary expansion, Middle American culture. If there is only one participant for a given level, that participant will receive 15 units of private instruction per week instead of 20 units of group.
In addition to the minigroup course with 20 lessons, you will have 5 lessons of 45 minutes each of private instruction per week to work on individual weaknesses/needs. You can also opt for 10 units of private instruction in addition to the minigroup with 20 hours. Duration: 1 to 34 weeks.

The D.E.L.E. (Diploma for Spanish as a Foreign Language) is the only official certificate for foreign students recognized by the "Instituto Cervantes". The diploma is a real asset for students who desire to study at Spanish universities or would like to work in a Spanish speaking country. The specific aim of the D.E.L.E course is to prepare students to pass the D.E.L.E. exam at any of its three levels.
The DELE preparation course consists of 20 lessons general Spanish + 10 lessons exam preparation per week and has a duration of 4 or 8 weeks.
Minimum age is 16 years.
This course is designed for those who want to optimise their study time. The aim of this program is to offer a fully personalised method of teaching designed to meet the specific student's needs and desires. As the classes are private, the student will be able to decide the schedule and content.
