ELC Brighton Juniors

Our partner school ELC Brighton organises in the summer an exclusive programme for young adults aged 16-18 years. This English language summer vacation course takes place at the summer centre ELC Loxdale,  about a 10 minute drive from the main centre. The summer centre is an attractive Victorian mansion house with its own gardens, sports hall and canteen. It is a peaceful and safe location for young adults, yet only a short bus ride to the city centre.

Students who are aged 18 can be accommodated in the residence, while all other students can choose to stay in a homestay.

Social programme

At extra costs, students can book a full social programme of afternoon and evening activities Monday to Friday with a full-day guided excursions at weekends.

Intensive (16-18 years)

  • Accommodation: it is possible to book accommodation in a host family, single or double room with half board OR in the residence for students aged 18. Double rooms are only available for students travelling together.
  • Supervision: this programme does not include superivison

English classes
The programme consists of 20 lessons per week. The course follows a structured programme of language study which covers the fours skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The main emphasis is on developing your confidence and fluency to communicate outside the classroom.
 
For the rest of the day, you can continue your studies or plan your own free time. It is also possible to join the ELC social programme at an extra cost (please see the course intensive + activities).

Minimum age is 16 years.

This course is designed for young adults, who want to combine English language study with fun activitites.
 
For half a day you will participate in a course consisting of 20 lessons per week. The course follows a structured programme of language study which covers the fours skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The main emphasis is on developing your confidence and fluency to communicate outside the classroom.

For the rest of the day, you will joing the social programme the school organises. The school organises 1 activity per day from Monday to Friday and 1 full day excursion on weekends.

Minimum age is 16 years.

Host Family

Living in homestay accommodation provides you with the opportunity to experience English life and to practise using your English in everyday situations. All homestays are carefully selected by the school's Accommodation Department who understands the needs of students from other countries.

Unaccompanied students aged under 18 must choose homestay accommodation (single room, half-board). Students who are travelling together, can also share a double room together. Typically arrival day with the host is Sunday before the course starts and departure day is the Saturday after the course ends. You live as a member of the household, eating meals together and sharing common living areas. The host will clean your room and provide you with towels and bedding. One load of laundry per week is included in the cost.

*Most homestays in Brighton are a bus journey away from school. Suggested journey times between the homestay and school are based on google maps information and may vary depending on the time of day. You can buy a weekly bus pass from reception at ELC.

Residence 18+

If you are aged 18 or over and prefer the freedom and flexibility of self-catering accommodation, the option in the schools residence might be the right choice for you.

The residence provides single en-suite rooms and is located in the heart of Brighton within 5 minutes’ walk of Churchill Square shopping centre, the seafront, 2 supermarkets and many restaurants, pubs and cafes.

The bedrooms include ensuite bathroom (shower, WC and washbasin), small double bed with storage, desk, chair, wardrobe (with laptop safe), bedside table and a drinks cooler. There is also free high speed wireless internet access. All bedding, linen and 1 towel are provided per week.

The residence facilities include kitchens/TV lounges (’hubs’) on every floor, café lounge on ground floor, coin-operated laundry, card entry with 24-hour security and CCTV.
