Young Adult Summer Course (16-22 year)

Our partner school ELC Brighton organises in the summer an exclusive programme for young adults aged 16-22 years. This English language summer vacation course takes place at the summer centre ELC Loxdale,  about a 10 minute drive from the main centre. The summer centre is an attractive Victorian mansion house with its own gardens, sports hall and canteen. It is a peaceful and safe location for young adults, yet only a short bus ride to the city centre.

The programme consists of 20 lessons per week. The course follows a structured programme of language study which covers the fours skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The main emphasis is on developing your confidence and fluency to communicate outside the classroom.
For the rest of the day, you can continue your studies or plan your own free time. It is also possible to join the ELC social programme at an extra cost (please see the course intensive summer + activities).

Students who are aged 18+ can be accommodated in the residence, while all other students can choose to stay in a homestay.

For futher information, please have a look at the ELC Brighton Juniors school.

Host Family

Living in homestay accommodation provides you with the opportunity to experience English life and to practise using your English in everyday situations. All homestays are carefully selected by the school's Accommodation Department who understands the needs of students from other countries.

Most students typically stay in single rooms with breakfast and dinner every day. Other meal plans may be available on request. Typically arrival day with the host is Sunday before the course starts and departure day is the Saturday after the course ends. You live as a member of the household, eating meals together and sharing common living areas. The host will clean your room and provide you with towels and bedding. One load of laundry per week is included in the cost.

KEY FACTS

  • carefully selected homestay accommodation
  • friendly, safe environment
  • free WiFi
  • bedrooms with study facilities
  • only one person of the same nationality per home unless you ask to stay in the same home as a friend
  • within 30 minutes of school (on foot or by bus)*, average 20 minutes
  • host families with own use of bathroom available on request against a supplement
  • arrival day Sunday, departure day Saturday

Unaccompanied students aged under 18 must choose homestay accommodation (single room, half-board).

*Most homestays in Brighton are a bus journey away from school. Suggested journey times between the homestay and school are based on google maps information and may vary depending on the time of day. You can buy a weekly bus pass from reception at ELC.

Shared Apartment with locals

The accommodation in a shared apartment with locals is very similar to the option in a host family, since in both you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself into the language and culture whilst living with local people.

In the shared apartment with locals are no meals included, but you may make use of the kitchen to prepare your own meals, which makes this option more independent than the accommodation in a host family.

Residence

If you are aged 18 or over and prefer the freedom and flexibility of self-catering accommodation, the option in the schools residence might be the right choice for you.

The residence provides single en-suite rooms and is located in the heart of Brighton within 5 minutes’ walk of Churchill Square shopping centre, the seafront, 2 supermarkets and many restaurants, pubs and cafes and 10 minute walking distance form the school.

The bedrooms include ensuite bathroom (shower, WC and washbasin), small double bed with storage, desk, chair, wardrobe (with laptop safe), bedside table and a drinks cooler. There is also free high speed wireless internet access. All bedding, linen and 1 towel are provided per week.

The residence facilities include kitchens/TV lounges (’hubs’) on every floor, café lounge on ground floor, coin-operated laundry, card entry with 24-hour security and CCTV.
