Study Chinese in Shanghai

From its humble routes as a small fishing town, Shanghai has developed into China’s largest city and one of the most important in the world. The biggest and most important sea port in the world, it is a whirlwind of vibrancy, culture and business and a very popular destination for people wanting to learn Chinese. The city is often regarded as the centre of trade and finance in mainland China, housing many important businesses and centres of commerce. The majority of Shanghai buildings being constructed today are high-rise apartments of various height, design and colour and this modern architecture is notable for its unique style. The region has a very efficient transport service, both locally and internationally. There are two airports, Hongquio and Pudong International which is the third busiest in China. The city has the world’s most extensive bus system with close to one thousand bus lines, and the Shanghai Metro has 5 lines. By the year 2010 according to the municipal government a further 8 lines will be built. Both the bus and metro services are both cheap and effective.

Study Chinese in an international language school in Shanghai
As Shanghai had the status as the cultural and economic centre of East Asia for the first half of the 20th century, it is seen as the birthplace of everything that is considered modern in China. The first motor car was driven here, the first train tracks were laid here and it was the intellectual hotspot for socialist writers. In addition to literature, the city was also the birthplace of Chinese cinema and theatre. China’s first two short films were created here and went on to establish the city as the centre of the country’s film-making. Like any vibrant metropolis, Shanghai has excellent and varied nightlife. From traditional Chinese venues and teahouses to modern, fashionable bars and clubs, the city caters for everyone. The most popular street for nightlife is Hengshan Road in Xujiahui district, but the Jing An Temple area of Puxi district is also a favourite. In reality all four corners of the city have attractive venues, as well as a mixture of cuisines.
