Our Italian partnerschool in Trieste, Piccola Università Italiana, is situated in a beautiful 18th century Venetian style building. The boutique school is located in the historical city centre of Trieste, close to the sea. The school is a warm and welcoming place where the interaction between people from all over the world encourages linguistic and cultural exchange. The small school setting and personal atmosphere offers the ideal environment to learn Italian.

The school offers 6 classrooms, a reception, library, cinema room and coffee area. There's airconditioning and WIFI in the whole school building.

Social programme

The school in Trieste offers you many activities to immerse in Italian culture and Italian lifestyle. Examples of activities are: guided city tours, visiting museums, castle tours, Italian movie nights, seminars on Italian culture and history and excursions to interesting points of view in the area and other cities / villages.

Intensive

The intensive course offers 20 Italian group lessons per week, in small groups with a maximum of 8 students. Lessons take place from Monday through Friday, 4 lessons per week. All important aspects of the Italian language will be offered during this course and the main subjects are grammar and conversation. The course has a communicate approach.

Minimum age is 16 years.

One-to-One

This course is completely adjusted to the student's linguistic skills and his or her personal and/or professional needs. This course is mainly recommended for students with only a short amount of time available. The course consists of 20 lessons per week.

Combined

The combined course is a combination of the intensive course (20 group lessons per week) and 6 individual lessons per week. During the intensive course all aspects of the Italian language will be taught. During the individual lessons, you can focus on specific subjects.

Semi-intensive

The semi-intensive course offers 10 conversation lessons per week. There will be 2 lessons per day, Monday through Friday. There is not much attention for grammar and students are expected to speak Italian from the start, that's why this course is not suitable for absolute beginners.

Italian & Cooking

Italian and cooking is a combination of the intensive course of 20 Italian lessons per week + 3 cooking lessons per week. Each cooking lesson has a duration of approximately 3,5 hours. The cooking lessons take place in the evenings, 3 evenings per week. You will learn to make a typical Italian menu by an Italian chef, followed by a dinner.

Minimum age is 16 years.

Italian & Painting

This course consists of the intensive course of 20 group lessons Italian per week and a painting course of 5 lessons per week. The painting lessons have a duration of approximately 2 hours, so in total you will have 10 hours of painting lessons per week. The painting lessons take place at the Fine Arts School of Trieste. You can choose between different techniques, such as water painting or oil painting.

Minimum age is 16 years.

Italian & Music

The Italian & Music course combines the intensive course of 20 Italian lessons with 2 music lessons per week. Each music lesson lasts approximately 30 minutes. You can choose to have singing lessons (opare, jazz, rock, pop etc.) or to have instrumental classes (guitar, drums, piano, keyboard, flute, saxophone, etc.).

Intensive 60+

This 60+ course is specifically designed for students who are 60 years or older. It offers the intensive language course of 20 lessons per week in mixed-age groups. For the 60+ students there also is a cultural/social activity programme included. Examples of activities are: 

  • Guided historical city tour through Trieste, followed by a coffee in a famous historical cafe
  • Visit of a wine estate with wine and oil tasting
  • Half-day excursion to Cividale
  • Half-day excursion to Aquileia
  • Watching an Italian classic movie
  • Full-day excursion to Udine with guided tour. Visit of the Fresco from the famous painter Tiepolo/Possibility to have lunch in a typical Osteria
  • Guided visiting tour of the museum Revoltella
  • Guided historical city tour through Trieste, followed by an Aperitivo Spritz in a famous historical cafe
  • Guided visiting tour of the Castle of Duino, followed by the visit of a traditional Osmiza in the Karst mountain range (with wine and snack)

Minimum age is 60 years.

Shared Apartment

This completely renovated apartment consists of 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms with shower and toilet and a fully equipped kitchen. You will have your own private bedroom and share the other areas with other students. Features: Wi-Fi, flat screen TV in all rooms, washing machine with integrated dryer (can be used on request), dishwasher. The apartment will be cleaned weekly. The school is located at just 5 minutes walking distance from the apartment.

Studio

When you want a more private option, you can choose to stay in a studio apartment. They consist of a fully equipped kitchenette, a separate bed and living room and a bathroom. Features: TV, heater/air-conditioning, washing machine with integrated dryer, dishwasher and Wi-Fi. The studio's are cleaned weekly. The distance to school is 2 to 20 minutes walking.

Host family

Staying with an Italian family is the best way to immerse yourself fully in Italian culture and language. Some host families consist of a single person, a couple or a family with children. You will have your own private bedroom and share the bathroom with the host family and/or other students. Some host families have room for several students.

You can choose between breakfast only or half board. When choosing halfboard, you can have meals together with the host family and enjoy typical Italian dishes.

Most host families live at max. 40 minutes distance to the school, walking or by public transport. Some guest families are located in the outskirts of Trieste.

Studio 60+

Students who participate in the 60+ course, will stay in a private studio apartment. They consist of a fully equipped kitchenette, a separate bed and living room and a bathroom. Features: TV, heater/air-conditioning, washing machine with integrated dryer, dishwasher and Wi-Fi. The studio's are cleaned weekly. The distance to school is 2 to 20 minutes walking.
