Intensive courses cover practice in all four skill areas: reading, writing, speaking and listening; however, you will find the focus of the standard course is on speaking and listening - generally the main requirements of today's modern English speaker.

The Intensive 28 English course in London is focused fundamentally upon communication, and uses real-life situations to enable language students to speak English even after their first English lesson. The Intensive 28 language course is perfect for those students who would like to achieve the best English language results in a short space of time whilst also gaining cultural understanding. This English course includes 28 lessons per week, 4 classes in the morning and 2 in the afternoon (on Friday’s there are no afternoon classes).

We appreciate that business people and professionals only have a limited amount of time available for English language training, the courses are, therefore, intensive and designed to make the best use of the time you have.

Maximum of 5 students per group with 15, 20 or 25 lessons per week. Minimum age is 21 years.

For group classes at least an intermediate level of English is required. Business English course students are asked to complete a needs analysis questionnaire before they arrive, which helps the school to assess their individual needs and aims and to formulate a unique, tailor-made programme.

The best way to demonstrate your level of English is through an internationally recognised qualification such as the Cambridge Exam. The school offers the Cambridge Exam course with 20 or 28 lessons per week. We advise a minimum stay of 12 weeks.

Commercial English is a course designed for people starting their business careers, or people with some experience of working in business. The course content is decided by the interests, aims and needs of the students in the group. The length of the course is 1 to 12 weeks. The course includes vocabulary, discussions, case studies, role-plays in business situations, video work and authentic material. There will also be the opportunity for visits of particular business interest and you can also enter for business examinations offered by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. The TEC (Teachers of English Course) is a teacher development course for non-native teachers of English who want to update their teaching methodologies, as well as improve their English. The course consists of 26 lessons per week. Participants develop and explore aspects of teaching methodology and techniques, and learn to assess and utilise a variety of teaching aids and resources. At the end of the course, all participants receive a certificate of attendance and a St. Giles Teachers of English Course Certificate.
The main elements of the course are:

• Background to language learning and teaching
• Different methodologies for teaching
• Classroom management and practical teaching skills
• Lesson planning
• Teaching aids and resources
• Observation of experienced teachers

An academic year course lasts between 24 and 36 weeks and is designed for long-term English language training. It is a structured programme of 20 lessons per week (half day courses in the mornings). The Academic year is basically a long term course with the same structure as the intensive programme.

This course is available for all levels. You will learn new grammar and vocabulary as well as revising what you already know. There is extensive practice of all skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, with a strong emphasis on speaking fluently and with clear pronunciation.
