The beautiful Andalusian town of Nerja lies on the Costa del Sol, 50km to the east of Malaga. It is a very popular tourist destination, as it is has a very pleasing climate and a number of places of interest. The city has a population of approximately 20,000 inhabitants and Malaga, Cordoba and Granada are all within 2 hours drive and Malaga airport is 65km away. Nerja has a very long and established history, evident in the cave drawings discovered in 1959. The caves here are the third most visited tourist attraction in Spain after the Prado in Madrid and the Alhambra in Granada. The whole cave network is thought to be largely undiscovered, stretching underground into the surrounding mountains. Like its fellow Andalusian towns and cities, Nerja has many Muslim and Arabic influences and was under Muslim rule for long periods, with Arabic architecture still largely existing in the town. Thanks to having beautiful sandy beaches and one of the best climates in Europe, the area attracts many visitors. The town is flanked by some dramatic mountain scenery and is a haven for walkers and hikers. Peaks in the Sierra de Almijara and Sierra Tejeda are particulary popular. Scuba diving is another favoured activity for tourists, with some incredible marine life along the coastline. With a lovely town centre with bars and restaurants both old and new offering a delcious selection of local seafood and wine, Nerja is the ideal destination for rest, relaxation and history.
Learn Spanish near the centre and the beach
Our partner school Escuela Idiomas de Nerja is located in the centre of the town, in a traditional Andalusian house, with a large tropical garden. It is just a few minutes walk from the beautiful nearby beaches and in the surrounding area you can also find all types of accommodation and shops. The language school consists of 12 indoor and outdoor classrooms (the garden is a wonderful place to have a class) which are all fully equipped. You will also find a library, cafeteria and computers with internet access. The language school was founded in 1980 by the current group of directors. The language teachers are all highly experienced and strive to help students improve as quickly as possible. The teaching methods are the most up-to-date and practical for effecient language development. These include audio and visual equipment, books, magazines and other materials.
Social programme
Away from language study, there are many extra-curricular activities organised by the school. These include Spanish cinema, flamenco classes, wine tasting, excursions to Malaga, Granada, Seville and the Nerja caves and horse-riding. Of course you also have enough free time to enjoy the sun and the beach! The accommodation is in the form of a shared apartment, a host family or the student residence. All accommodation is located within walking distance of the school, the beach and the village centre. The reservation runs from the Sunday (the day before the start of school) through to the following Saturday. Extra nights can be booked as well. All accommodation is cleaned weekly and linen and towels are provided.

Impression
Nerja is a great place to do a language course and I had so much fun. The weather was fantastic and I spent lots of time down at the beach. The teachers in the school were really friendly and helpful and I Iearned a lot during my stay. I would really recommend coming here!
