La Herradura is an Andalusian tourist resort situated between Granada and Malaga on the Costa Tropical. A small and picturesque village, it is very popular with both Spanish and European holiday makers due to its long sandy beaches and attractive centre. With Granada and Malaga both being just 60 kilometres away travel to and from La Herradura is straightforward. Besides, the city has a warm mediterranean climate, ensuring pleasant temperatures year round! The average temperature for the year is about 18 degrees, allowing holidaymakers the chance to visit all year round. This Andalusian village offers the charming combination of an old hill-top centre (with very steep streets and beautiful squares) with ultramodern tourist facilities, ensuring that the village has maintained its historic routes whilst developing to cater for modern life. In the bustling summer months, the population increases steadily to about 10,000 inhabitants and is fairly calm throughout the rest of the year, with the population reduced to just below 4000 inhabitants in winter. In comparison to the other big Spanish resorts this is absolutely ideal. Thanks to the lovely climate, students have a unique opportunity to combine Spanish language courses with various (water) sports, at any time of the year. It is also ‘the place to be’, for families with children. The local day-care centre caters for the needs of babies and toddlers while the village school offers a special language course for children aged six or older! There is a wide selection of bars and restaurants, in both the traditional and modern styles, presenting the regional cuisine on offer. As La Herradura is situated on the mediterranean coast seafood is a speciality.
Spanish lessons just 50 metres from the beach!
The language school Centro de Enseñanza de Español was opened in 1997. In November 2006 the school moved to another part of the village and is now on the seafront. The school is also only 5 minutes walking distance from the centre of the village. The school is quite, with only 5 classrooms. Consequently the maximum number of students received is 55. As well as the classrooms there is a leisure/study room with a library, computers and internet access, two bathrooms, an office and a beautiful patio overlooking the beach. Each room is air conditioned. The accommodation in La Herradura is in the form of a shared apartment, a host family or the student residence. All accommodation is located within walking distance of the school, the beach and the village centre. The reservation runs from the Sunday (the day before the start of school) through to the following Saturday. Extra nights can be booked as well. All accommodation is cleaned weekly and linen and towels are provided.
Social programme
The school has a very friendly atmosphere, which makes it possible for the teachers and the other staff to make use of the students’ ideas and suggestions during classes as well as during social activities. Next to the language courses, sporting events, boat trips, excursions to canyons and barbecues are regularly organized. Moreover, the surrounding area (Alpujarras, in particular) offers the students many opportunities to indulge in adventure and the Spanish way of life. At the weekends the language school organizes day-trips to Granada, Cordoba, Seville and excursions to Morocco as well as the Sierra Nevada skiing region.

Impression
We had a terrific study holiday together with the family! We were able to send our youngest child (3 years old) to the day-care centre every morning for weeks. Our daughter, Emma has already learned Spanish so well at school, along with the children of a German couple. In the afternoons we all went to the beach or set off to explore the surroundings. Lovely!
