Cordoba Spanish courses in Cordoba. Melting pot of culture and religion

Situated in the centre of Andalusia in the south of Spain, Cordoba is a charming city with a population of approximately 350,000 people and enjoys a mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Temperatures during the summer months can exceed 40 degrees, although this is quite rare. The city has excellent communication links between the city centre and the International airports of Spain , with Madrid and Malaga airports approximately 2 hours away, and Seville about 40 minutes. Cordoba also has an excellent public transport service. The province  forms part of the famous Andalusian triangle (Cordoba, Seville and Granada) and lies between the Quadalquivir river and the Sierra Morena. This fascinating city still bears the traces of the Romans and the Arabs. In these parts, Jews, Christians and Moors enjoyed centuries of mostly peaceful cohabitation and left glowing testimonies of their religion behind. The most well known example of this is the famous Mezquita. This historic mosque, as well as the surrounding old town centre, has been placed on the list of world monuments by UNESCO. With the passage of time, Cordoba has awoken from a long “siesta” and evolved into a modern city with a large student population. The beauty of the city is that it still maintains its historical and cultural roots whilst at the same time has the features of a modern city. The contrast between these two features attracts thousands of tourists each year and is a great place to do a language course.

Learn Spanish in an attractive language institute
Our partner school in Cordoba is the Academia Hispánica, located on the edge of the historic centre of the city. Built in the traditional Andalusian style, the school is a spacious two-floored building with a beautiful courtyard and terrace. The school has excellent facilities for learning and improving Spanish. There are 18 classrooms with full audio-visual equipment, a well-stocked library with both old and new literature, a self-tuition centre, multimedia room and a video room. The terrace also has some beautiful plants and flowers, again making studying and socialising outside that little bit more special. There are three levels of Spanish for the Spanish courses, Basic, Independent and Competent, ensuring that the students are placed in the correct environment for their learning needs. On arrival a written or oral test will determine level selection to achieve the fastest improvement.

Social programme
The accommodation in Cordoba is in the form of a host family or in a shared apartment. Both are an excellent way of practising Spanish and for meeting new people. The host families are very friendly and have a lot of experience in looking after foreign students. Cordoba is an ideal point of departure for excursions to a whole range of destinations, for instance to Granada, Seville, Málaga and the Costa de Sol, to Cadiz and Western Andalusia, and to the mountains of the Sierra Morena. Even Madrid is just 1˝ hours away by high speed train. Alongside the language courses, the school organises a wide variety of activities each week, varying from city walks and flamenco lessons to Spanish “fiestas”. You can complete your language course with an 'intercambio', an exchange program with Spanish students. You will first practice your Spanish with them and after that you can help them with the langauge they want to learn (mostly English).

Impression
Feria was indeed a great festival, it was quite astounding to see the Spaniards set out day after day. I did a marvellous job of keeping up pace with the celebrations and even attended classes everyday. And immediately after classes I had the perfect opportunity to practice what I had learned at school on the streets. The second week was a lot calmer for me but also more fetching.
