This exam is the only one officially recognised by Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. It is also widely recognised in the business world.
This is a course of 25 lessons per week with a maximum of 10 students per class and lasts 4, 8 or 11 weeks.

The first and second lessons of the D.E.L.E course every day focus on grammar. The next two lessons are conversation classes and the last lesson is an exam practice session using past exam papers.
As the exam has an oral and then a written part, the D.E.L.E course involves quite a few audiovisual comprehension exercises, specialized texts, and compositions which gradually increase in difficulty depending on the level of the exam for which the student wishes to prepare.

The Certificate exam is for intermediate-level students, the Basic for those in the advanced level and the Superior only for those with a fluent knowledge of Spanish.

If a student is at beginner's level when he/she arrives, then 3 months should be adequate preparation time for the Certificate exam. If the student is at an intermediate level, he/she should be able to prepare for the Basic exam in the same time frame. The same goes for students at advanced level with the Superior exam. At the school they only prepare students for the Basico and Superior Diploma exams.
Exam dates are set by the Spanish Government and typically are in the second or third week of May and November.
