One of Central America's oldest and most beautiful cities, Antigua makes a fantastic location to learn Spanish. Flanked by three volcanos, Antigua is situated in a truly stunning setting and is also descibed as one of the best preserved Colonial cities in Latin America. Antigua is famous for its historic Baroque architecture and pretty cobblestone streets, and attracts a large number of Spanish language students each year. With a population of 33,000 inhabitants Antigua is medium in size, but wholesome in character. Antigua's volcanoes are still active and it is not uncommon to see smoke escaping from them, although bigger eruptions are rare.  There are also numerous attractive, bars, restaurants, streets and squares for you to expore whilst you take your Spanish course in Antigua. Although Antigua is a wonderful place to learn Spanish all year round, the most exciting time to visit is during Semana Santa (holy week) as the city hosts the largest celebrations in the Western Hemisphere.
