Learn French in Chambery, a medium-sized city in eastern France and capital of the Savoie region. Due to its position in Savoie, there are direct routes to Grenoble, Geneva, Lyon and Turin which make great excursion destinations if you choose to learn French in Chambery. The Elephant's Fountain is arguably the city's most famous city, having been built in 1838 to honour Count Benoît de Boigne's success whilst in India. The statue is a representation of four elephants truncated in a column in the shape of the savoyan cross, was first ridiculed by the residents, as they did not want to see an elephant in their city, but eventually the fountain became well-received. It is certainly an incredibly interesting design and a language course in the city would not be complete without seeing it in person. As Chambéry is located on the shores of France's largest and deepest lake, Bourget, choosing to learn French in Chambery provides the opportunity to take part in various water sports on the lake, such as sailing. A walk alongside the lake on a nice evening is the prefect way to end the day, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The city is an ideal starting-point for those wanting to go skiing or trekking in the Alps. The city and district are served by its own airport and so travel into and out of the city is straighforward. There are also excellent train links to all corners of France, with a high-speed service to Paris.
