They also home to two world-class ski resorts which were used during the Winter Olympics held in Calgary, and host World Cup races every winter. Calgary holds many major annual festivals which include the Calgary Stampede, the Folk Music festival and the Lilac Festival. The Calgary Stampede is billed as “the greatest outdoor show on earth” and lasts for 10 days after starting in the second week of July. It is one of Canada’s largest annual events and the largest outdoor rodeo, as well as hosting agricultural competitions, stage shows, concerts and a midway. The festival is an incredible spectacle and students who choose to learn English in Calgary are urged to attend if possible. Calgary has fantastic nightlife with a very broad selection on offer that caters for all tastes of music. “Beat Niq Jazz and Social Club” hosts a different live band every night, whilst “Jimmy’s Nightclub” is the only place to jive in the city, playing classic songs from the 50s and 60s. Whatever your taste in music or surroundings, you are sure to find a selection that fits your eye.
