Learn French in Bordeaux, a charming, picturesque city in west-central France and the capital of the Aquitaine region. The city is home to around 1 million people and is one of France's main business locations and well-known as being the world's wine industry capital. The city has a very old and interesting history, evidence found in local caves suggests that there were people living in the area as a far back as 90,000 years ago. More recently, the city flourished due to the successful wine trade and the cathedral of St. André was constructed. A stunning, cultural hotspot and as well as being classified as a "City of Art and History", it has also been named on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble". Victor Hugo famously described the city as being a combination of Versailles and Antwerp due to the similarities between the three. Bordeaux is the home to one of Europe's biggest 18th century architectural urban areas making it a very popular destination for tourists and cinema production crews. There are numerous historical and architectural building of interest, including St. André cathedral, Esplanade des Quinconces, Pont de Pierre, Sainte-Croix Church and Palais Rohan. If you choose to learn French in Bordeaux, you will find that the city is also home to an impressive array of bars and restaurants in both traditional and modern and attractive shops, especially along Rue Sainte-Catherine, a pedestrian-only shopping street.
